The Bulgarian language belongs to the
family of the Slav languages. All Slav languages, Bulgarian
included, are dialects of a common Slav language. The
development of the Bulgarian language started in the 8th c.
and covers three periods: old, mediaeval and modern.
The old Bulgarian period covers the 9th – 12th cc. During
that period, the Bulgarians were the first that had adopted
Christianity as well as the Cyrillic alphabet to write their
language. |
