There is a wide variety of
alcoholic drinks at very moderate prices.
The 'rakia' (brandy) is the national drink. It is
made of grapes, apricots or plums. There are
different brands. (A bottle of Tsar Simeon rakia,
among the most expensive ones, costs $8. Watch it! Never buy these drinks at open markets. It
is advisable to buy them at food or wine shops where
quality is guaranteed.
Bulgaria, and the city of Ruse in particular, are
very famous in Eastern Europe with its red and white
wines.
A bottle of wine is $3 - $5 in shops and $5 - $8 in
restaurants. |
You must try Cabernet Sauvignon reserve
or Chardonnay – manufactured by Vinprom, the Ruse wine-makers.
And remember that tap water, fountain water and even well
water is drinkable.
So, get ready to say 'Dobar apetit' (Bon apetit!) and
Nazdrave! (Cheers!).
